Dealing with Dyslexia
I see in one of the comments someone asked if I was dyslexic. Yes I am very much so. I struggled so much in school and I took a lot of abuse because of it. I had to learn on my own how to deal with it. It seemed there was absolutely no one in the school system that teaches dyslexic students what it is or how to deal with it.
I hope someday I can bring attention to this problem. I want to become very active in helping the dyslexic problem go away. It caused me a lot of pain in school. I often felt dumb or embarrassed and I would get physical sick just thinking about going to school. I was too embarrassed until now to speak up about being dyslexic but now I want to fight against it. I don’t want other students to have to go through what I had to.
For those who don’t know what it is… Dyslexia is a learning disability where there is a gap in the brain. It makes it near impossible to remember patterns. Dyslexic people can’t hear the phonological sound of letters. Black and white text can make us sick to look at, since it may look like it’s moving, switched around, missing ect. Every dyslexic person is different though so it’s hard to find the right way to help. I could go on all day about it but I’ll stop there for now.
Love, Laura
Hi Laura, very nice that you’re so brave of you to come out as a dyslexic. Here in Germany it is the same game. It come out very few dyslexic. Anyone who has managed to make something of his life, should make other mut. For this it could work well, instead of being put on siding. My own dyslexia has made with the expert, today I am dyslexia Graduate trainer, and can help many. And am a journalist in this field. So I think each story very well, others courage. Занятно! Спасибо за материал.
We are SO very happy for you!! We loved watching you on the show and wish you the best in making your dreams come true. It is amazing to see old photos of you at our house and now on tv. You are a very beautiful girl with a personality to match…never change. Congratulations!!
Thank you so much for bringing up Dyslexia! I believe my 9 year old daughter has this learning disability. She is also huge fan of ANTM and now since there is a Kentucky girl on there that has Dyslexia, she is just super excited! She has all her homework finished, bath and PJ’s on, before the show comes on! She’s doesn’t want to miss one minute!
You have been an inspiration to me and have given my baby girl the hope that she can reach for the stars even with her disability!! I’ve said a prayer to take you all the way to #1, but if God has something else in store for you, please know that you’ve changed our lives! THANK YOU!!! Best of Luck!
Thank you very much for distributing the message about, where some see it as a disability I see it as a blessing.
No More Shame In My Game

You are such a heart melter… You give me hope that there are people in this world with a pure heart, and it’s awesome that you wear the clothes that your Grandma Wanda Sue makes for you… HOPE YOU WIN!!!
Hey miss,
Good for you for speaking out about this. I studied dyslexia in college and I know how monumentally challenging it can be.
To that end, if you’d like me to edit any writing you do for your website, don’t hesitate to shoot me an email. I edit stuff for friends all the time and I’m happy to give a hand to another creative person like you. (And I’m not some creep who’ll try to get money out of you; I just genuinely like helping people with writing since it’s my profession and I love what I do!)
Either way, I get a kick out of watching you on the show each week. It’s refreshing to see someone who’s so full of joy and who isn’t trying to play a character to get more air-time. The world needs more Lauras in it.

Laura, you are a joy! I’m sure that if you decide to speak out for people with dyslexia, you will find success and help to improve lives. Yes you are a beautiful woman, but more importantly it is obvious that you have a beautiful heart and caring soul.
Laura, you are adorable. Seriously, you make ANTM worth watching this year. I was wondering if you have read the fourfour blog. He loves you and you should read it – very funny!
I would also like to say that you have inspired me to find out more about dyslexia. I am a high school English teacher, and we never received any information about how to help dyslexic students, and after reading this, I realized that many of them still feel lost.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings on this blog!
Just wanted you to know you have fans. You are definitely my favorite. You are so charming and hilarious and like a real life sweet as pie version of Mary Cherry from the t.v. show Popular.
Dyslexia; is so complexed. The school system is over loaded with students and it is so hard to understand all the damage that Dyslexia can do. the student must learn to say hey – I’m not dumb acually I’m very intelligent and I have a lot to add to any discussion my ideas are outside the box and many of the greatest achivers in the world have shared my Dyslexic gift. If you have Dyslexia or think that you do you are the only person who can figure out a learning pattern for yourself. Stop trying to do it the standard way and start searching for your gift and like I have told Laura her whole life – Find out what you love and push hard for it. As for the teachers – a big Thank You for all those who took the time to help Laura; and shame on all the ones who thought they could just humiliate her into learning.
I understand, i have it too and it makes it hard to read, type everything. And your right, the school system didnt really help, it takes for ever for the stupid test to come back, but when it does, they dont help. they usualy say, “well you have dyslexia, you get a little longer on your test.” and thats it. but anyways congrats. i always thought that you would do good in life but i never thought that i would be watching you on TV. it just doesnt seem real to me, it seems just like yesterday that we were in ms. evans’s class. HECK if dont even seem like that long ago that we graduated. you have made stanford proud. comgrats
